Description

St. Mellion International Resort is set in 450 acres of stunning Cornish countryside. Boasting two golf courses, the Nicklaus and the Kernow, a Golf Shop, and a Golf Academy, it's an idyllic retreat for golfers. When you add the brand-new, 4-Star Hotel to the mix, with it's choice of dining experiences, leisure complex with 3 pools, spa facilities and health club, its easy to see that St. Mellion has something for everyone to enjoy. Crown Golf, the UK's largest golf course owner/operator, counts St. Mellion International Resort as the most prestigious venue among it's 33-strong group of golf clubs. The Kernow Course at St. Mellion Golf Club was designed by J Hamilton Stutt in 1976, and soon became known as one of the finest courses in the South West. When the signature "Nicklaus" Course opened in 1988, the Kernow course was somewhat overshadowed. In 2008, however, that all changed. The Kernow Course was completely redeveloped. The new Kernow course incorporated nine of the original holes into the new 18-hole layout. With wider fairways, larger greens and stunning views, the Kernow course is an exciting complement to the Nicklaus Course. The new layout on the Kernow course begins with the longest Par 4 on the course, created from the original 1st and 2nd holes. Holes 2 to 5 were also part of the original design, but they have been enhanced by strategic new bunkers to catch that errant shot. Holes 6 to 9 are new additions that offer the opportunity to use every club in your bag! The 6th requires accuracy, both off the tee and with the 2nd shot. The 7th is a stunning 200-yard Par 3, followed by a 541-yard Par 5 8th, which plays every one of it's yards. The 9th is similar to the 6th, in that it requires great accuracy from the golfer! The back 9 on the Kernow course starts off with another 3 new holes. The par 4 10th is reachable with a Sunday best, but danger lurks, so caution should prevail. The new 11th & 12th holes overlook the Nicklaus Course and are definite birdie opportunities. Holes 13 to 16 are both part of the original design, but have been enhanced and upgraded. The current 17th is a par four, with two plateau's to aim for to provide a flat lie for the demanding but exciting 2nd shot. The closing hole leads the golfer back to the clubhouse, the tee strategically placed to ensure the golfer's skills are put to the test. There are excellent catering facilities at St. Mellion International Resort. The Bewdern Brasserie, overlooking the magnificent 18th Green on the Jack Nicklaus Course is the ideal venue for golfers to re-live the highlights of their round and to plan their strategy for their next visit. The Nicklaus Bar is a magnificent golfers '19th'. Marvel at the achievements of golf's greatest ever player in warm and friendly surroundings and enjoy being an observer of others' efforts on the 18th! St. Mellion International Resort are proud hosts to the English Open, taking place in 2011.
